BIO – ELDER DERRICK E. GAINEY
Elder Derrick E. Gainey was born and raised in Hallandale, Florida to the late Elder Dr. Daniel E. Gainey and Minister Margaret Jones. Elder Gainey grew up in the Church of God by Faith. He recalls traveling with his father as a young boy on the Florida East Coast District. His father allowed him to sit in the pulpit while he preached the gospel. At the age of 9, Elder Gainey started to play the organ and began his craft. He began to play under the anointing of God. For a significant part of his life, he knew that there was a greater call for him to teach and preach the gospel. He received Jesus as his Savior September 1990.
Who would have thought that he would meet a singer who attended Zion Rest Church of God by Faith in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After 2 years of “courting,” Pastor Gainey married his bride, Latoya, in November 1996 and to this union they were blessed with 5 children: DeVon, Alera, Layna, Mayah and Celena. Singing gospel songs became a family affair in the Gainey household. Just about every day you will find someone singing: in the living room, kitchen, in the car, and at church every Sunday.
In 2005, Elder Gainey and his family moved to Gainesville, FL. He served as musician and minister at Gainesville #1 under the leadership of Emeritus Bishop James E. McKnight, Sr. In 2012 Elder Gainey was ordained as Minister. He furthered studies and became a consecrated Elder within the Church of God by Faith in 2016. Elder Gainey was appointed as Pastor of High Springs Church of God by Faith in Atlanta, GA December 2018.
Elder Derrick Gainey has over 25 years of public service and has served in many capacities across the State of Florida. He loves the Lord and has devoted his life to serving God and his people. In the pulpit, you may find him saying “It’s in him that we live, move and have our being, outside of him, we can do nothing.” All the glory belongs to God.
